In late August and early September of 2002, the Museum repainted its Convair F-106A "Delta Dart", USAF S/N 59-0134. The project was accomplished with the cooperation of the 144th Fighter Squadron Field Maintenance Team from the California Air National Guard, Fresno ANGB, CA. A dedication ceremony was completed on 09 Sept 02.
Old City Hangar
The Museum's primary restoration project is the restoration of the "Old City Hangar". The structure was erected in 1928 and was the first hangar built at the Colorado Springs Municipal Airport. A climate control system was installed in Jan/Feb 2005. The hangar houses the Museum's P- 47N "Thunderbolt" and other exhibits pertaining to NORAD, the Air Defense Command and the Air Force Space Command.
Republic P- 47N "Thunderbolt"
Restoration completed. The Museum's prized P- 47N -25-RE Thunderbolt, USAAF S/N 44-89425, was painted in August 2004 with 198th Fighter Squadron, Puerto Rico ANG markings from the early 1950s. A dedication ceremony for the aircraft was conducted on 10 June 2005. The cockpit has also been restored by populating the instrument panel with gauges, manufacture of a control stick, and installation of seat armor.
Lockheed EC-121T "Warning Star"
Interior restoration of the EC-121T Warning Star, USAF SN 52-3425, is nearing completion. The aircraft arrived at Peterson Air Force Base in 1978, almost directly from patrol duty flying the Icelandic GAP. The interior of the aircraft is available for viewing. Next project is to begin repainting the exterior fuselage.
On 12 Sep 03, the Museum acquired the launching platform for HAWK missiles and restoration has been completed on this project. Three HAWK missiles and their launcher are now (20 Jun 06) on display in the Airpark.
EB-57E
In September 2004, a team from the 158th Fighter Wing, Burlington Vermont Air National Guard repainted the Museum's EB-57E
Medal of Honor Memorial Grove Expansion
On 04 Apr 05, construction began on expanding the Medal of Honor Memorial Grove. It was completed in July 06. A dedication ceremony was conducted on 24 Jul 06.
B-17 "Tar Fly" Dedication
On 17 Feb 04, a new exhibit of a model B-17 was added to the Terminal Building.
F-104C "Starfighter"
In July & Aug 07, the F-104 Starfighter was repainted. Repainting was accomplished with the generous NORTHCOM financial assistance by the Commander, NORAD/NORTHCOM, General Gene Renuart.
