Founded in 1926 and shown here in 1940, the Colorado Springs Municipal Airport was chosen as the site for the new Colorado Springs Army Air Base in 1942. Note: The two hangars in the foreground are part of today's Peterson Air & Space Museum. The hangar on the right is called "The Old City Hangar" and it was the first "permanent" structure built in 1928. The hangar on the left is called "The Broadmoor Hangar" and was built in 1930 by the Broadmoor Hotel. For more written history, click here.
